Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks

Spring has sprung —For most Canadians Spring Cleaning is an annual ritual and time to clean-up and prepare for the season change over. It can be a rewarding activity, leaving you feeling ready for the new season.

Shopper Army asked Canada’s top cleaning brand experts for their tips and tricks they rely on during Spring Cleaning.

Revive your Spring wardrobe

Springtime means it’s time to ditch the heavy coats, hats and gloves and bring out the lighter clothing for the warmer seasons.

Product: Febreze Fabric Refresher

Tip: “If your spring and summer clothes have been boxed up, spritz Febreze Fabric Refresher on each item to refresh them and help remove any stale odours,”

Nothing says springtime like white sneakers, but chances are you didn’t clean them before storing them away

Product: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with Durafoam

Tip: “Use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with Durafoam to wipe away dirt, grime and grass stains to keep your kicks looking fresh”

Give your home a proper rinsing

Baking soda is versatile, it can get the job done in the microwave, sink, tub and tiles in the bathroom, and it can also help soak up odours in your dishwasher and garbage disposal.

Product: Arm & Hammer Baking Soda

Tip:  Sprinkle Arm & Hammer baking soda directly on the surface or onto a damp sponge for use. You can make it into a solution by using four tablespoons for each quart of warm water, and you can even turn it into a paste by adding just enough water to create a thicker consistency

Your cutting boards take a beating throughout the year and can accumulate bacteria and other dirt. It’s good to give them some TLC

Product: Clorox Original Concentrated Bleach

Tip: Prewash with liquid detergent, then mix two teaspoons of Clorox Original Concentrated Bleach with four litres of water. Soak in the solution for two minutes before sanitizing, and then rinse with hot water. Let your cutting boards air dry after that, and they’ll be ready for use again.

Tidy up after your kids

After giving the house a clean and while you’re at it…. now’s the time give your kids’ toys a proper cleaning…

Product: Persil ProClean

Tip: Fill the bathtub with warm water and, wearing rubber gloves, add a half-cup of liquid Persil laundry detergent. Let toys soak, then THOROUGHLY rinse and dry toys, and ensure bathtub is thoroughly rinsed and dried afterwards as well.

Prepare for BBQ/Patio Season

Nothing’s more perfect than a Sunday afternoon backyard barbecue, but you’ll have to get the grill and backyard ready before you host the cookout.

Product: Dawn Dish Soap & Bounty

Tip: Make a solution of Dawn dish soap and warm water to wash the outside of the BBQ. Use Bounty paper towels to clean the BBQ surface and remove built-up grease and grime from any crevices.

Use a spray-on oven cleaner for the grill grates. Leave it on long enough to soften up accumulated grease and once the grease loosens it, it should be easy to wipe off with paper towels.

The winter months can be long, drying out your yard and patio furniture.

Product: OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover Powder

Tip: Refresh your patio furniture with OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover Powder. You can also use it to revive large planters that were sitting outside all winter. Fully rinse and wipe down your deck and furniture once it’s all clean.

Storing away your winter goods for next season

Product: Bounce Dryer Sheets

Tip: tuck Bounce Dryer Sheets between your belongings or bed linens to keep them smelling fresh
